This is because the default application pools in IIS 7 are set to run in 64-bit mode, but the Dovetail SDK pre version 3.0 was only available as a 32 bit installer. Due to the 32-bit/64-bit Registry Redirection feature in Vista/Server 2008, 64-bit applications cannot see certain registry settings (such as the Dovetail SDK COM compatibility registrations). By enabling 32-bit applications in the web application's application pool, the application will work. See the resolution for specific step-by-step instructions on solving this problem.     Open a CR, and enter a summary of 80 characters (the maximum length for the field). Next, select the contents of the text filed and try to copy it (ctrl-c), and an error is shown: Pated data has exceeded the maximum length of 80. Your data has been truncated. This error was caused by the keystrokes ctrl-c, and it is misleading since a copy action was being attempted, not a paste action.

Dovetail Mobile does not have a way to view bugs. It handles this by displaying the search results as normal but with a link to a page informing the user that there is no way to view this object.

    Companies will often run their Dovetail/Clarify CRM application with system administrator (sa) credentials. This behavior poses a security risk and is not recommended. Applications based on the Dovetail SDK have what is called an "application user" whose credentials are used to connect to the database and at times used default session user. It can be handy for this user to have elevated privileges when you need to do administrative things like reset passwords. However it can also be a vector for attack. We recommend that you restrict your application user to have a minimum set of privileges.

    The fcSDK is responsible for tracking and enforcing licensing. There is typically a license limit, then a small number of grace licenses that can be used. For example, you may have 50 licenses and 3 grace licenses. Applications that use the fcSDK (such as fcClient and fcSelfService) can be configured to notify an administrator when the licensing has started to use grace licenses, and when the total limit has been reached.

    The following behaviour was observed in Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (MSSQL 2005) In fcClient, in console_left.asp, the following error can appear: SQL Server does not exist or access denied. This error happens when the console left queries the database using an ADO connection, in order to retrieve the count of items in the wipbins and queues, and is unable to connect to the database. Note that the fcClient application did start and initialize properly (meaning that it could connect to the database), and the console and console_main pages displayed properly. fcClient uses a direct ADO connection for retrieving wipbin and queue counts, as opposed to using the fcSDK, which is why the main application can connect to the database, but the code that gets the wipbin and queue counts cannot.

  • How to set the default TimeZone in Clarify

    By default Clarify will have a timezone of 'No Time Zone Specified' which is basically GMT. fcClient uses this default timezone when users login to automatically select their timezone if they have not already specified a preference. The fcSDK (and thus fcClient) utilizes this default timezone to set the FCApplication.ServerTimezone. All date times submitted to the system are converted from the session user's timezone to the server timezone. Thus if a user is logged into the system with their timezone set to 'Central Standard Time' and the server has 'No Time Zone Specified' (GMT), 5 hours will be added to any datetimes submitted by that user.   • Asp page blocking issue

    One particular customer ran into an issue in that while one long running query was executing, the user could not start another query, or do any other operation that involved server side code. It would simply queue up until the first query finished. Note that this only affected this one session. Other users (sessions) are not blocked. This is actually due to ASP serializing requests when ASP sessions are used. In FCS ASP web apps (such as fcClient), we take advantage of the ASP session object to manage some session data, as well as session timeouts. Customer had a requirement to allow the first long running query to not block any other activity that may happen while the first query was still executing.
