Backordering a Part

A backorder is performed in much the same manner that a Fulfill action is performed. When parts being requested are not in stock, or when the inventory is not sufficient to fulfill an order, a backorder is performed. When a backorder is performed, users specify the estimated date when the order can be fulfilled. When the inventory is adequately replenished, the order can be fulfilled.

To backorder a part

  1. From the Part Request Order Processing form, choose the Fulfill tab.

Note: See the Fulfilling a Part Request section for information on how to enter order fulfillment information.

  2. Enter the required backorder information.
  3. From the Activity dropdown list, select Backorder.
  4. From the new Expect to Fulfill field that populates, enter the date and time that the backorder is expected to be fulfilled.
  5. Select the Backorder button. This changes the condition of the part request to backordered, so the user knows to fulfill the order when inventories permit. Backordered part requests should be routed to an expeditor's queue for resolution.
