Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)

DDE is the form of interprocess communications (IPC) used by Microsoft Windows to support the exchange of commands and data between two applications running simultaneously.

Dovetail Agent has the ability to function as a DDE Server and as a DDE client. This allows Dovetail Agent to communicate with other applications that support DDE, and it allows other applications to communicate with Dovetail Agent.

A common use of DDE is integration with CTI systems, such as softphone applications. For example, when the softphone application receives an incoming call, it can tell Dovetail Agent to post a new case page for the customer based on the customer's phone number.
