Defining Restriction Groups

Data restriction is a completely customizable feature. Data restriction can be defined using the Dovetail SDK. Once it's defined, Dovetail Agent will automatically use it.

Most users want fairly similar restrictions for their data. Dovetail Agent ships with two files to assist with this common data restriction, which we recommend to use. These files have been tested and work well. Using the files supplied, any restriction group or groups can be defined by using Dovetail Admin. After the changes below are made, no form changes or code changes are required.

The two files that ship in the res directory are:

To define restriction groups

  1. Make the changes listed in the .sch file to your schema.
  2. Import the .dat file with dataex (or ArchiveManager).
  3. Set up the restriction groups and assign users to restriction groups using Dovetail Admin.

    Note: If there is already data in your database, then put restrictions in the existing objects. For more information about this, please contact Dovetail Software.
