In this particular customer’s situation, they had their Dovetail Agent application running as a specific user, rather than 'anonymous’. Permissions to the physical folder for which Dovetail Agent was running had been removed for this user for some unknown reason.

When they re-added the web app user’s permission to the Dovetail Agent installation folder, they were successfully able to login.

At whatever point you decide to run your web application as specific users, especially in a Win Server 2008/IIs7 environment, permissions are going to come into play. Most HTTP 500 errors can get traced back to permissions in some form or fashion. When isntalling and setting up Dovetail Agent or Admin, get the application running under the ‘Anonymous’ web application user first, then apply security to assist in troubleshooting and debugging.
