Queries Edit Form - Complex Queries

If users have the Complex Query privilege turned on, they will use a different version of the Edit Form to create and modify queries. For information about the general Edit Form, go to the Queries Edit Form section.

The Complex Query Edit Form has additional controls to configure complex queries. Complex queries can be made up of clauses that are grouped by parentheses and joined by AND or OR operators.

As each action is performed, the SQL "Where" Clause Based On Clauses Shown Above field will show the SQL in text format.

• To add a parenthesis to the query clauses, select the parenthesis buttons: ( ). To place a new open or closed parenthesis clause in a specific sequence among the existing ones, select an existing clause before clicking on the parenthesis buttons: ( ). When the parenthesis button is clicked, the new clause will be added after the selected one. If no existing clause is selected, the new one will be added at the end of the list. To move the operator to another position, select it and then use the Up or Down buttons.
• To add an AND or OR operator to the query clauses, select the AND or OR buttons. The same placement rules within the clause list as for the parentheses apply.

  Note: When a new clause or operator is added it may cause an error message to appear at the bottom of the form. This message will inform the user what other action is required for the query to be syntactically correct. If no message is present, the query is correct and can be used.

Note: Saving the query will also validate the SQL clauses. A message will be displayed if something is in error, and the query will not be saved to the database.
